School leaver

If you are a school leaver who is considering primary teaching, you can choose from one of these options to complete a primary teaching qualification at a teacher education provider:

  • Complete a foundation programme of study if you do not meet teacher education qualification criteria or
  • Complete a primary teaching degree or diploma or
  • Complete a degree followed by a one-year Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) or
  • Complete a four-year combined degree and primary teaching qualification

You can choose a method of study from a variety of options such as campus-based, online and distance, and whether you study full time or part time.

TeachNZ Teacher Recruitment Scholarships (Māori Medium) are available for school leavers interested in teaching in a total immersion or bilingual setting.  Rural scholarships are also available to encourage people to teach in rural areas.  For full details and eligibility criteria, view the application forms below.
